The 795.0 MCM Tern ACSS Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported is a concentric-lay stranded conductor, crafted from round aluminum 1350-O wires and round, coated steel core wire(s). The steel wires are shielded with a Class A coating of zinc 5% aluminum mischmetal alloy, with other coating classes available for enhanced corrosion protection. Standard, High, Extra, and Ultra High Strength steel options are also provided. ACSS conductors are favored over ACSR conductors for certain transmission line applications.
- Uses: ACSS conductors are ideal for: Replacing existing lines, New installations, Lines prone to aeolian vibration
- Structure: ACSS conductors consist of ACSS, a non-uniform conductor made of round aluminum 1350-O wires and round, coated steel core wire(s)
- Advantage: ACSS conductors are favored over ACSR conductors for specific power line applications
- Temperature Resistance: ACSS conductors can withstand up to 250C with zinc - 5% aluminum mischmetal alloy coating on steel wires
- Standard: ACSS conductors are produced following the ASTM B856 specification
