- · Metric Tubing is compatible with most pond equipment that is manufactured in Asia, Europe or anywhere outside of the US. A good rule of thumb is if you are using Black insert fittings with your project you will most likely require metric tubing.
- · Some of the popular brands that typically require metric tubing are Aquascape, Tetra, Laguna, Alpine, Anjon, Oase, Atlantic, Cal Pump and Little Giant.
- · Metric tubing runs a bit smaller than tubing made for US fittings and pumps even though they both list the same nominal size, such as 1” ID. This means simply that it doesn't slide right over most U.S. fittings that you buy at the hardware store or in some cases the fittings that are included with certain pond kits. It will seem to be too small for US fittings, but there are a few tricks and solutions if you find yourself in this situation.
- · One solution is to shave down the barbs with a knife or file to accommodate the metric hose. Also, a heat gun can also be used to soften the barbs on the fittings before filing them down. It may make the task easier.
